Actuator Maintenance Guide: Pneumatic, Hydraulic & Electric Types Actuator Maintenance

Valve actuators are critical for automated process control, and they fail quietly — usually only discovered when the valve is called on to move.

Pneumatic Actuators

Air quality is the single biggest determinant of service life. Check filter regulators, seals, and spring condition, and stroke-test against the positioner feedback.

Hydraulic Actuators

Fluid cleanliness, accumulator pre-charge, and seal integrity govern reliability; drifting stroke times are the earliest warning sign.

Electric Actuators

Torque switch calibration, limit switch setting, gearbox lubrication, and enclosure sealing make up the bulk of the maintenance scope.
